With the release date inching closer, fans are eagerly anticipating Venom: Let There Be Carnage. But while the sequel to the 2018 hit movie introduces a new symbiote villain, it may also bring back a version of Venom from the first movie. Venom saw the black symbiote briefly merge with Anne Weying to become She-Venom, and a new poster suggests that such a fusion could happen again.

A series of newly released posters hint at She-Venom returning, which could have a dramatic effect on Anne's psyche. And if her continued fusion with Venom is anything like the comics, she'll meet a fate far darker than anything the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown. Here's a look at She-Venom's disastrous fate in the comics and how anything close in live-action would be too much for a Spider-Man-related movie.

Anne Weying's Death in Marvel Comics

first appearance of she-venom

Anne Weying in the comics was Eddie Brock's ex-wife, whose former connection to him only intensified her life. Though she would try to reason with her now deranged ex, she was soon bonded with the Venom symbiote herself after she was shot by the Sin-Eater. This first experience as She-Venom was incredibly violent, with Anne grievously attacking the people who had done her harm.

She would later bond with the symbiote again in order to escape from jail, but she still hadn't mentally recovered from her first ordeal with being She-Venom. After seeing Spider-Man in a version of his Venom-esque black costume, a distraught Anne chose to end her suffering by jumping off of the top of her apartment building.

She-Venom's Fate Is a Step Too Far For Venom 2

Such a drastic and saddening state of affairs might not be too far away for the cinematic Anne Weying. After all, her first turn as She-Venom in the first movie had a particularly violent end for the people standing in her way, not unlike the similar situation in the comics. If she becomes She-Venom again like the new poster shows, the circumstances could be even more drastic, taking her over the edge of sanity.

This would be one of the few times a "Marvel" movie has truly dealt with an issue on this level. Though the X-Men movies at times were quite dark and serious, they were mostly made in a different era of superhero movies and were also completely unconnected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's still rampant speculation that the Venom movies, as well as Morbius, will eventually involve some version of Spider-Man, who's not only one of the most popular MCU heroes but the face of Marvel Comics for several decades. Spider-Man is a typically fairly bright character, though this hasn't the spin-off Venom comics from going dark in the past. Nevertheless, the much less risky and far more mainstream MCU may not want to have its most profitable hero associated with such a dark turn of events.

Likewise, Sony could feel the same way if they want to eventually have their own Spider-Man movie series again completely separate from the MCU. However, something this dark would help to separate Sony's movie universe from Marvel's, all while banking off of some perennial best-seller characters. Whether or not Anne will meet her end in the sequel or even become She-Venom again remains to be seen, but given the character's history in the source material, there's precedent for a darker path moving forward.

To see what happens to Anne, Venom: Let There Be Carnage releases in theaters Oct. 1.
