WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, now in theaters.

Eddie Brock and the symbiote Venom are back in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which picks up where the end-credits scene of the 2018 original left off, with Eddie interviewing serial Cletus Kasady in prison. Early reviews and social media buzz promised a romantic, comedic and carnage-filled film that explores the twisted dynamic between Eddie and Venom and praised Tom Hardy’s performance as the leading characters Eddie and Venom. But more importantly, Let There Be Carnage features a moment that brings about big changes for Eddie and Venom and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The mid-credits scene of Let There Be Carnage drops a huge bombshell on fans who have been waiting to see Venom meet Spider-Man, something that star Tom Hardy himself has wanted to happen. In the scene, Eddie is lying in bed in a hotel, watching television, when a flash of light transports him from that room to another, in daylight hours. He is understandably confused and worried, and Venom morphs into the suit to protect him as they investigate the change in programming on the TV. However, on the screen is none other than J. Jonah Jameson, delivering a report that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man killed Mysterio in London.

On the surface, the mid-credits scene further solidifies the existence of the Marvel multiverse, something that was touched upon in WandaVision and Loki, and will be explored more in-depth in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The trailer for Peter Parker's next solo outing confirmed the multiverse will be central, with Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy appearing at the end, and teases of other villains throughout.

And while it's possible the event that seemingly transports Eddie and Venom into the MCU could be what brings Doc Ock and other Sony-controlled villains there, it seems unlikely that the symbiote will contribute to Spider-Man's problems in No Way Home.

Let There Be Carnage's tease confirms a comment that director Andy Serkis made in an Instagram Live interview with IGN, in which he said Venom and Spider-Man will inevitably meet. However, he also said they shouldn’t interact too early because there are other stories to be told first. So, while it's understandable that fans are excited at the prospect of Venom taking on Spider-Man, it may not happen as early as No Way Home.

To see how the movie connects Eddie Brock to the MCU, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is in theaters now.
