The second season of Taboo won't happen any time soon thanks to Venom 2

FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier told Deadline that several episodes have already been written and executive producer Steven Knight “is definitely game,” but there’s one problem: “We just need the actor,” he explained, noting how the broadcasters have been “talking about” a second season of Taboo recently but can’t get started on it due to star Tom Hardy’s commitment to Venom.

“It’s dependent on Tom’s schedule,” Schrier said. “Right now, he’s shooting Venom 2. Steven is definitely game and we have a great idea for a second season, some of which has already been written.” Schrier went on to say that FX is in “active conversations” with all of the appropriate parties for greenlighting the show, but didn’t offer specific details.

The Venom sequel, directed by Andy Serkis, is expected to cover the backstory of Venom’s arch-nemesis Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage. Actor Woody Harrelson portrayed the murderous red-and-black symbiote in an after-credits scene for the first film. He is slated to return for Venom 2, which is scheduled to be released on Oct. 2.
