Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who portrayed vice-president Selina Meyer for the show's 7-season run, recently revealed that a revival of the political satire has been "discussed" and is entirely possible.

"We've certainly discussed it. Everybody's sort of gone off now and everybody's doing other projects and so on," Louis-Dreyfus said, speaking to The New Abnormal, a podcast from The Daily Beast. "But I don't rule it out entirely, doing some sort of Veep-related thing. I mean, there's an area that we could jump back into. I think Dave and I have talked about it."

Showrunner Dave Mandel also confirmed that "anything is possible" in regard to the show’s return. "We left just enough, sort of like there's some time jumps in there that you could definitely … kind of color in and answer a couple of questions," Mandel said.

While both Louis-Dreyfus and Mandel said that Veep could return to the small screen, it would be most likely to happen after Joe Biden returns the US to a "baseline of normalcy" after President Donald Trump leaves office in 2021. According to Louis-Dreyfus, this will give the show a greater opportunity to shine as satire once the US returns to a "baseline of normalcy."

"There's always an opportunity for satire," Louis-Dreyfus continued, "and we're hopeful that with the Biden administration, you know, things will sort of settle down, and then we can be the outrageous ones." Mandel went on to explain that a reunion of the HBO show would be most effective once "you're not thinking about the president every six minutes," that way "we can get back to some good old-fashioned political satire."

The Veep cast recently staged a reunion during a read-through on Dec. 6 in support of Joe Biden and Democrats in Georgia.
