In Netflix's Vampire in the Garden, young Momo enlisted in the army along with her best friend, Mirena, hoping she could impress her mother, the shady Commander. But in time, Momo struggled with the war occurring between humans and vampires, realizing the trauma took a toll on both sides and kept the never-ending cycle of violence going.

Deep down, she wanted a way out; however, when Momo finally reached paradise, a horrific twist ensued that reminded her how tough trust was to come by.

How Did Momo Learn About Paradise?

Momo and Fine ran away in Vampire in the Garden

Early on in Vampire in the Garden, Momo and Mirena went on a raid killing vampires, including a youngling who was scared of humans. It was quite intense -- no surprise given Wit Studio also did great work in the first three seasons of Attack on Titan. Nonetheless, Mirena felt justified because the vampires took serums that would make them bigger and allow them to detonate after a while, turning them into WMDs. Momo couldn't cope though, keeping the child's music box.

Inside, there was a picture that spoke of a utopia where vampires and mankind coexisted, leaving Momo wondering if such a world was real. Sadly, her mom abused her when she found the box, hating how her own child -- and someone the military was grooming to be a commander -- could sympathize with the bloodsuckers.

What Pushed Momo to Seek Out Paradise?

Fine and Momo run away in Vampire in the Garden

One subsequent battle saw Allegro and the vampires attack Momo's city, with the raid unfortunately resulting in Mirena being torn apart. However, Fine, the vampire queen, saved Momo and made it clear they could escape together. Fine heard Momo singing the tune off the music box by a lake, and thought the two of them running away was destiny.

Fine already experienced a human bond with a friend named Arya years ago. Sadly the war took the latter's life so she saw Momo as a second chance, remembering how she and Arya bonded over this tune, and art in general. Fine revealed this place was called Volskaya and that Momo needed to flee with her ASAP. Momo contemplated staying but, knowing her mom was a maniac and the bloodshed wouldn't end, she left with the queen.

What Happened to Momo and Fine in Volskaya?

Fine defied her vampire clan, befriending Momo as they fought off her mom's hunters, including Uncle Kubo. It culminated in them taking a few days but eventually reaching the frigid village. They were welcomed and treated like royalty, with Momo even getting a new bestie in the little vampire Elisha. Still, a highly-emotional and worried Fine suspected something was off in the way these vampires and humans were behaving.

Her instincts were right -- after leaving the village when Allegro came to fetch her, the vampire-human alliance attacked. As it turns out, they needed Fine for part of a feeding program. Momo would eventually stumble across it in the catacombs where she found a vampire hooked up to machines, being drained like a battery. He confessed vampires sold out their own, allowing the alliance to harness electricity from their blood and bodies.

The alliance powered the village up like this, which everyone was cool with, as it provided food and drink for both sides. Unfortunately Fine was viewed as a potential energy source, which explains why Elisha was adamant for them to stay. Vampire in the Garden's twist ended with the victim dying and Elisha trying to take Momo out due to her insubordination. Allegro had to retreat to get back-up, but this allowed the alliance time to capture Fine so they could drain her too.

All five episodes of Vampire in the Garden are streaming now on Netflix.
