The newly released game Valorant has recently teased its first new agent after launch. In a tweet, Riot revealed Reyna, a new character introduced as part of the game's day-one patch. This new hero is a hungry, Spanish speaking diva with a somewhat unnerving personality. At first glance, however, some noticed some striking similarities between Reyna and another Mexican hero from a different game.

Those familiar with the hero shooter Overwatch were likely reminded of Sombra upon seeing Reyna. In terms of character design, both the characters share a similar black and purple motif along with Mexican heritage. Additionally, based on their voice lines, both of them seem to be rather dismissive of their enemies and perhaps even a little bit smug.

This isn't the first time that character designs from Valorant have drawn comparisons to Overwatch. When Valorant revealed Omen, players immediately began to compare him to Overwatch's Reaper. Both of them present themselves as edgy, cloaked characters that rely on the shadows to get around. The two of them even share a similar, guttural modified voice.

Whereas Omen and Reaper do share a lot of similarities, it's a relief that Reyna and Sombra actually have some major differences. For one, it seems that Reyna's abilities are completely unrelated to hacking and more akin to stealing souls. Her ability is focused around gaining "Soul Orbs," which she can use to heal herself after killing enemy. While Soul Orbs also exist in Overwatch, these are heavily associated with Reaper, not Sombra, and Reyna's ability lends itself to a unique and risky playstyle.

Another difference between Reyna and Sombra is her personality. While both characters do share a lack of regard for their enemies, Reyna seems to be more blood-thirsty when it comes to kills. In the trailer, Reyna makes several references to eating, saying things like, "More, more!" and "I'm still hungry." Added to her other lines, Reyna appears to exude an incredibly violent and menacing presence, especially on the battlefield. This is in stark contrast with Sombra, who is much more laid-back and playful, even in serious situations.

While Reyna and Sombra do have some things common in terms of their designs and personalities, Reyna manages to distinguish herself through her unique abilities and terrifying presence. And, as the game reveals more of her backstory, fans will surely be able to see her as more than just Valorant's Sombra.
