Valley Girl, the classic 1980s Romeo and Juliet-inspired romantic comedy starring Nicolas Cage, is getting a remake, and the film's super colorful and totally '80s trailer has now arrived.

"I love playing with genres," director Rachel Lee Goldenberg told EW. "The juxtaposition of the bright, poppy Valley world and the dirty, grimy punk world was an exciting visual idea for me."

The trailer arrives shortly after MGM announced the original Valley Girl, directed by Martha Coolidge and co-starring Cage and Deborah Foreman, would be available to watch on all major digital platforms. However, where the original film was a straightforward rom-com, the remake will be a musical featuring hit '80s songs like "Take on Me" and "We’ve Got the Beat." All these songs will be set to choreographed dance sequences by the cast and feature an extremely saturated costume palette. It will also be told via flashback by an adult Julia (Alicia Silverstone) to her daughter (Camila Morrone), who reminisces of her days in the California Valley.

The film's official synopsis is below:

Julie (Happy Death Day’s Jessica Rothe) is the ultimate '80s Valley Girl. That is, until she falls hard for Randy (Josh Whitehouse), a Sunset Strip punk rocker, who challenges everything Julie stand for. Despite push-back from friends and family, Julie must break out of the safety of her world to follow her heart and discover what it really means to be a Valley Girl.

Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Valley Girl stars Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, Chloe Bennet, Mae Whitman, Ashleigh Murray, Jessie Ennis, Rob Huebel, Judy Greer, Alicia Silverstone and Camila Morrone. The film goes on sale digitally May 8.
