"X-O Manowar" is going metal. Valiant Entertainment has announced that "X-O Manowar #1" will receive an exclusive variant cover printed on an aluminum metal sheet. Created by artist Monika Palosz, the variant for the first issue of Valiant's new ongoing series will come printed via a special process.

Each store that orders 500 copies or more of "X-O Manowar" will receive only one copy of this brushed-metal variant; that is to say, each qualifying retailer is strictly limited to only one copy of Palosz's variant, which means this special cover will be very rare in the coming year.

“This just might be our craziest idea yet,” Valiant CEO and Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani said in a statement. “As a publisher, Valiant is always looking for new ways to engage fans and retailers. The new 'X-O Manowar' #1 is a milestone moment for Valiant and our biggest character, and we knew we had to put as much magnitude behind it as possible to ensure this series’ place as a centerpiece of the industry in 2017. Rest assured, Matt Kindt and Tomas Giorello are preparing a story that is just as bold and just as enduring as this cover."

Earlier this month, Valiant confirmed that "X-O Manowar" would return in 2017. The series will be helmed by Eisner-nominated writer Matt Kindt and artist Tomas Giorello. Kicking off with a three-issue story arc titled "Soldier," the series arrives on March 22.
