Valiant Relaunches Bloodshot Comic Ahead of Vin Diesel Film

X-O Manowar isn't the only Valiant Entertainment hero getting a relaunch. Bloodshot will also receive a new ongoing series in September, just before he makes his big screen debut next February.

Deadline reports the new series will be handled by writer Tim Seely (Hack/Slash) and artist Brett Booth (Teen TitansBatman Beyond), with covers by Declan Shalvey. In addition, a special adventure written by Seely with art by Tomás Giorello will be given away as part of Free Comic Book Day 2019.

"I don't feel like I need to reinvent the wheel with Bloodshot," Seely said in a statement. "What I need to do is tell a big, crazy story that can only be done in comics, and I need it to be powerful and emotional and relevant in a way only comics can do. I want to go back to basics and tell a story about a guy who was made to be a weapon but isn't allowing anyone to use him ever again. He's an outcast, an outsider, and he can't help but use his indestructible body to help people, even though all it ever does is get him in trouble. With great power comes a great big pile of shell casings!"

Another mainstay of the Valiant Universe, Bloodshot is an antihero who gains superhuman abilities thanks to nanites in his body. The upcoming film adaptation -- which sees Vin Diesel star as the titular character -- is set to start off a five-movie shared universe based on Valiant's characters.
