John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have confirmed that they are also co-writing a Spider-Man film for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

"We can finally acknowledge that [we are writing 'Spider-Man,'" Daly told NPR in an interview about the pair's upcoming comedy, "Vacation." "This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it."

"We've been saying no comment for the last week," Goldstein added.

"He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor," Daley told NPR of the character. "It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he's coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have."

Reports that the duo were in talks to take on the web-slinger's latest big screen solo adventure first surfaced earlier this month.

Since as far back as May, Daley and Goldstein were reported to be on the shortlist of potential "Spider-Man" directors. "Vacation" marks their directorial debut, but the two have a history of screenwriting collaborations, including recent comedies "Horrible Bosses 2" and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone."

The currently untitled new "Spider-Man" film is scheduled for release on July 28, 2017, and will feature star Tom Holland in the title role, with Jon Watts on board as director. Holland is expected to make his debut appearance in the role a year earlier, in May 2016's "Captain America: Civil War" from Marvel Studios.
