Don't expect "Colony" to answer all of its mysteries any time soon; USA's sci-fi series has received a second season order from the cable network. The series will follow up its ten-episode freshman season with a 13-episode Season 2.
Co-created by Carlton Cuse ("Lost) and Ryan Condal ("Hercules"), "Colony" stars Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies, a married couple attempting to survive and thrive in the wake of a military occupation of Los Angeles.
The series' dystopian setting takes its cues from Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II. "You had the incongruity of Nazi tanks set against these amazing medieval cities from European history, but life in these places went on very quickly," Condal explained at a gathering of journalists during 2015's New York Comic Con. "People adapted and moved on.” What fascinated him and Cuse was exactly how some of those people survived. “The really interesting thing was the collaborators within those places that aligned with the Nazis — the Vichy in France. It’s like, how do you do that? How do you turn against your own people?"
Though it hasn't proven to be a smash hit since it debuted in mid-January, the show has pulled in solid reviews and steady ratings.
"Colony" airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on USA.
