A public service announcement from the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission calls out an anime with a fittingly dangerous lead character: Chainsaw Man.The recent fall anime made a huge impression when it premiered this week, with many fans raving about the first episode and in particular the high animation quality and the uncensored gore. It appears as though Chainsaw Man also caught the attention of a United States government account, as the official Twitter of the Consumer Product Safety Commission made a clear reference to it. Although they didn't explicitly name the series nor did they tag the anime's official account, it's easy to put two and two together from the text, "Man made of chainsaws. Hm."RELATED: Chainsaw Man Opening Pays Homage to Tarantino, Coen Bros. Movies and More

The account followed up the initial tweet by asking "There's a chainsaw dog?" The official English account for Chainsaw Man then pretended to take offense and quote-retweeted with "#Pochita has a name." Their interaction continued when the Product Safety Commission asked the anime account, "What happens to Pochita" and "Where's Pochita, Chainsaw Man" -- questions which the series tactfully side-steps.

Chainsaw Man Take Heed

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission does its due diligence by giving some helpful chainsaw safety tips with a note that "If you yourself are a chainsaw, tips may not apply." Some tips include responsible inspection prior to usage and eye protection. The account ends the thread by asking people to report any unsafe power tools, chainsaw or otherwise, to the CPSC.

According to the anime's lore, the CPSC isn't quite correct: Chainsaw Man isn't really made of chainsaws. Because of the contract between Denji and Pochita, Pochita becomes Denji's heart, thus fusing with him. When he pulls the cord coming out from his chest, Denji's head changes into a chainsaw with sharp teeth and chainsaws come out of his arms. The half-man, half-chainsaw devil hybrid is dubbed Chainsaw Man.

Created by Fire Punch author Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man garnered critical acclaim for the mangaka's storyteling and artwork, earning numerous awards including the Harvey Awards for Best Manga two times in a row. The story follows Denji, a young man living in poverty, who has spent most of his life surviving on plain bread which he shares with his demon chainsaw dog companion Pochita. One fateful night, the yakuza betrays Denji and kills the two of them, leaving the two for dead. However, Pochita saves Denji by enacting a contract with him, turning him into the terrifying and ruthless Chainsaw Man.

The manga is currently ongoing with 106 chapters and can be read on Viz Media or Manga Plus. The anime adaptation, helmed by MAPPA, is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
