John Walker, better known as the U.S. Agentis rather unlikeable compared to his predecessor Steve Rogers. According to writer Christopher Priest, this makes him an immensely interesting character to write.

"John Walker is no Steve Rogers," Priest said during a Marvel video interview. "John Walker is not a superhero, no matter how much he wants to be a superhero. And that's the point of John Walker. So you have a guy who has all the right powers, he has all the right motivations, he's a true patriot, and yet he falls short of that mark."

When Priest was asked why he was drawn to a character that was so unlikeable, he said he resonated with Walker on multiple levels. "Oh my God, I was born for that! This is a guy that I instantly know...I have a great deal of affection for him and I think I understand that kind of character and person." He also discussed how the miniseries will serve as a personal story for Walker.

The U.S. Agent miniseries from Priest and Georges Jeanty strips Walker of his title as U.S. Agent, reimagining him as a government contractor. Priest has a storied career as a comics writer, penning a definitive run on Black Panther in the early 2000's and writing Deathstroke for DC.
