League of Legends is a MOBA that has existed for over a decade, but the success of Arcane is bringing in new players. There are several tutorials that explain the basics of the game, such as how to win, as well as the function of towers, champions, and minions.

The tutorials allow the player to try out a few different characters in order for them to discern what play style best suits them. Unfortunately, the game is so complex that it is impossible for the tutorial to teach everything a new player needs to know. There are quite a few rules that the tutorial doesn't cover, which are common knowledge for experienced players, yet not so obvious to newer ones.

10 Off-Meta Builds And Positions Aren't Always Acceptable

Teemo walks away from a mushroom cloud

In recent years, League of Legends has added and removed a plethora of items. This, along with frequent patches to adjust champion damage, makes it so that the meta is constantly shifting. The game has even added a feature to the in-game shop which allows players to see what other players frequently build. Although Riot Games has encouraged players to try new things that aren't part of the norm, there are limits. Doing something against the meta shouldn't damage the enjoyment of the other players.

9 Both Teams Face Off In Mid Lane During Late Game

Mid Lane In Summoner's Rift

When starting the game, every player has to go to the lane they were assigned to. This allows every player to efficiently earn gold and experience and to defend the towers on the map. However, after the game has gone on long enough that the outer towers have fallen, the players group up in the mid lane.

This is especially efficient because it makes it easier for players to fight as a team. This tactic is so commonly used that experienced players naturally expect their teammates to know when to group up, making it less of a strategy and more of a rule.

8 Dodge A Game If A Teammate Is Toxic

Riot Games discourages players from dodging their ranked games. Leaving games after entering a lobby extends the wait time of other players who are trying to get into a game. However, sometimes dodging is necessary. If another player on the same team is going into a game with a bad mentality or with the intention of losing, then it is better not to stick around. Dodging a ranked game results in a penalty, but it pales in comparison to the damage a bad teammate could do to someone's ranked climb. Needless to say, this does not mean that a player should be dodging all of the time. Leaving games too many times only leads to bigger penalties.

7 Everyone Should Ward

Control Ward In League Of Legends

Most of the Summoner's Rift map is covered by the fog of war. This fog makes it impossible to see what is happening in a certain location, and many players take advantage of this to sneak up on or escape their enemies. Wards grant vision of these areas and can be crucial in revealing where the enemies are. Thanks to their starting item, supports can carry the most wards and are expected to do most of the warding. However, the rest of the team has access to a warding trinket and can purchase control wards. Warding is a team effort and should be done by every player.

6 Don't Chase Singed

Singed has a very simple play style. His main way of dealing damage is to run around, leaving a poison trail behind him. Anyone who gets caught in this trail takes damage over time. "Don't Chase Singed" should be an easy enough rule to follow, considering the lack of complexity this champion has compared to recently released champions.

However, a frustratingly large number of people seem to forget this rule. Singed's high speeds allow him to outrun a great number of enemies, and fruitlessly chasing after him only leads to a player's own demise.

5 Don't Allow Enemy Champions To Stack

Nasus In League Of Legends

There are a few champions in the game that can stack. Stacking can usually be done by hitting or killing a minion or a champion, and it increases the stats of the champion. If allowed to stack freely, these champions can become practically unstoppable in the late game. Champions like Cho'gath and Nasus are the most terrifying examples of this, as they can be tanky while also packing a punch. It is crucial to avoid getting hit by stacking champions, and to make sure to avoid a low-health engagement. Ending a game early can also keep these champions from getting out of hand.

4 Leash For The Jungler

Rek'sai bursts out of the ground

At the start of a game of League of Legends, everyone is at their weakest. At level 1, it is difficult for junglers to clear their first camp on their own. There are some exceptions that have no issues with their first clear, like Kayn, Ivern, or Shaco. However, most junglers need either the top lane or the bot lane players to help them whittle down a jungle monster's HP, depending on where they start off on the map. After lowering the health of the monster enough, the laners can return to their lane to begin their own farming. The jungler will have little trouble with the rest of their clear since their first one should help them hit level 2.

3 Avoid Using Custom Skins, Maps, Or Voicelines

Garen and Yuumi fusion custom skin

There is a section of the League of Legends community that enjoys making or playing with custom skins. These skins can make the champions look like practically anything, which can make playing the game more enjoyable. Fans have also been able to customize the classic Summoner's Rift map, as well as add voice lines. Riot Games doesn't support this side of the community, because using custom skins discourages players from buying skins. Players who tamper with the game's files run the risk of getting banned since modifying the game in this way can be misconstrued by the company as an attempt to cheat.

2 Players Should Roam The Map

This particular rule is underappreciated. In recent years, players have taken to blaming the junglers for anything negative that happens during the game. Although the main roles of the jungler are to capture objectives and to help the three lanes get some kills, they can't realistically be everywhere at once. Other players should roam to help other lanes at opportune moments to secure kills or to save their teammates. This requires the players to be winning their lane and for them to have excellent map awareness, but knowing when to roam will not only take some pressure off of the jungler but can benefit the entire team.

1 Players Should Speak Up And Express Their Opinions

If there is one thing Riot Games is incredible at, it's listening to their community. They encourage players to give their feedback, and employees of the company have social media accounts that were made to gather opinions and to spread information across multiple platforms. Most of the constructive criticism they examine is on Reddit, under r/LeaguePBE. Here, players can report bugs and explain the pros and cons of new skin releases. As long as it's feasible to change the skin during a limited period of time, changes can be made in response to this feedback.
