Days ago, it seemed like Warner Bros. planned to release Wonder Woman 1984 theatrically on Dec. 25, and then release the film to stream on HBO Max in January. However, movie critic Grace Randolph discovered that Warner Bros. -- while working on an official release statement -- accidentally published an unlisted Wonder Woman 1984 trailer that said otherwise. In the now private trailer, the video announced that Wonder Woman's sequel will premiere theatrically on Dec. 25 as well as on the streaming service, HBO Max.RELATED: Wonder Woman 1984: Warner Bros. Considering Limited Theatrical Release Before HBO Max Debut

Users online immediately viewed the link she gave and took screenshots of the announcement. One such screenshot is seen above; however, the video is now switched to private so fans won't be able to view it. One hour later, Warner Bros. confirmed the trailer was correct.

Earlier in October, Jenkins said, "Direct-to-streaming is not even being discussed. We are still 100% behind the theatrical experience for (Wonder Woman 1984) and supporting our beloved theater business." However, the above video proved that perhaps premiering Wonder Woman 1984 as direct to streaming and showing in theatres is a compromise that both Jenkins and Warner Bros. agreed could work.

Warner Bros. released an official announcement on Nov. 18, which can be read below. The official HBO Max announcement trailer has also been made available.

"As we navigate these unprecedented times, we've had to be innovative in keeping our businesses moving forward while continuing to super-serve our fans," said Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group, which includes Warner Bros. Pictures.

"This is an amazing film that really comes to life on the big screen and, working with our partners in the exhibition community, we will provide that option to consumers in the U.S. where theaters are open. We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform."

"We appreciate how patient audiences have been and given the great anticipation around Wonder Woman 1984 we are grateful to be able to make this terrifically entertaining movie widely available in these challenging times," said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25, while debuting theatrically in international markets starting on Dec. 16. The film will be available for a month on HBO Max in the U.S. included at no additional cost.
