Years after launching the 21 Jump Street franchise, Universal Pictures announced star Channing Tatum is reteaming with writing-directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller to reinvent a classic monster for a new horror film.

Tatum will star and produce the untitled "modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller" film with Lord and Miller, as reported by Deadline.

The film's current plot is being kept secret for now, but it will be based on a treatment by Tatum's producing partner Reid Carolin. Colony creator Wes Tooke will translate Carolin's treatment into a script for the untitled Universal Monster film.

Lord and Miller's production company LordMiller will produce the thriller with Tatum and Carolin's Free Association.  The four will serve as producers along with Free Association's Peter Kiernan and LordMiller president Aditya Sood. The project will be overseen by Universal's SVP of Production Jay Polidoro and Director of Development Lexi Barta along with Free Association's Michael Parets and LordMiller's Will Allegra.

The film's announcement comes as Tatum, Lord and Miller have been busy the past few months. The actor is set to star in and make his directorial debut with Dog alongside Carolin. Lord and Miller have been developing the Clone High reboot for MTV along with the mystery-comedy The Afterparty for Apple TV+.
