"The Maze Runner" screenwriter Grant Pierce Myers will adapt author Colleen Oakes' "Queen of Hearts" for Universal Pictures, Deadline reports.

The series of young-adult novels imagines the Queen of Hearts from "Alice in Wonderland" as Dinah, the teen Princess of Wonderland Castle, whose only escape from the monotony of royal life and the humiliations of her father is the daily visit from her best friend, the future Knave of Hearts. But as her coronation date approaches, a series of suspicious and bloody events suggests there's something sinister lurking within the walls of Wonderland.

Featuring familiar characters like the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter, the "Queen of Hearts" novels make up a trilogy. The first two novels have already been published, with the third set for release in 2018.
