Universal Content Productions, a division of NBCUniversal charged with creating new content for the company's television and streaming offerings, is creating a comics imprint.

According to Variety, comics scribe Grant Morrison (Animal Man, The Invisibles, Doom Patrol) and Alex Child will co-write the first five issues of Protector Valley Road. The comic is "the story of a group of teenage girls suspected in the disappearance of several teen boys in a 1964 California beach town."

Protector Valley Road will be under the UCP Graphic imprint and published by BOOM! Studios. UCP Graphic joins the podcasting platform UCP Audio that was created in June. Both exist to generate intellectual property for other projects across Universal. UCP President Dawn Olmstead said, "Our goal is for UCP to be a home for great storytelling, no matter the medium."

The UCP Graphic imprint extends the company's bids to use comics as content for its platforms. UCP already co-produces The Umbrella Academy, based on the Dark Horse Comics series, for Netflix. It is also producing a TV adaptation of the Dark Horse series Resident Evil for SyFy.
