Universal Books Safe House 2

Hollywood knows what you want, more Safe House. Although the Universal Pictures action thriller wasn’t considered a huge hit when it was released earlier this year, it did make $202 million worldwide on an $85 million budget. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s enough for the studio to move forward with a sequel.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the original movie starred Ryan Reynolds as a low-level CIA operative who has to keep Denzel Washington’s rogue agent alive after a safe house in Cape Town, South Africa, is attacked. It was written by David Guggenheim, who went on to set up a series of films, including the Nicolas Cage vehicle Stolen. He’ll return for the Safe House follow-up, which the studio hopes will again star Reynolds and Washington.

Given that — spoiler alert! — Washington’s character didn’t survive Safe House, his inclusion in the sequel may take a bit of explanation.
