Underworld’s Beckinsale Discusses Possible Return After Blood Wars

In a new interview discussing her leading role, “Underworld: Blood Wars” star Kate Beckinsale opens up about the possibility of returning to the franchise — leaving us, for the most part, in the dark.

“The thing is, we’ve always gone on a case by case basis,” Beckinsale told Screen Gems (via ComicBookMovie). “[Only] if there’s an audience for it, [because] we don’t need to just keep throwing things out there. I’ve never been attached to [the role] before the concept has come up. It really depends on whether’s there’s another place to go.”

Producer Len Wiseman previously indicated that there were two more “Underworld” films in development, in addition to a TV series, back in 2014. The first, starring Beckinsale, would of course become “Blood Wars,” while the second film has yet to come into fruition — or, at least, it hasn’t been officially announced. “There are a few things being developed right now. There’s some characters that we really liked [for] more of a spinoff…like we did with ‘Rise of the Lycans,’ and then another film is also being developed in the works with Kate [Beckinsale] possibly as well…and there’s television series as well. It’s all expanding our universe in many ways.”

As for progress on the TV series, there’s no news at this time.

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Directed by Anna Foerster, “Underworld: Blood Wars” also stars Lara Pulver, Tobias Menzies, Bradley James, James Faulkner and Charles Dance. The film opens Jan. 13 in North America.
