The latest poster for “Underworld: Blood Wars” has been released and it shows Kate Beckinsale back in the lead role as Selene -- but this time around she’s wearing more than her trademark black leather. The Part-Narnia-Part-Gothic-Gangster coat she’s wearing appears to be the same as that which she disappears from while fighting new Lycan leader ‘Marius’ at the end of the trailer. Could this fleece with gothic armor betray a little more of the story than meets the eye?

Franchise star Kate Beckinsale also shared the poster via Twitter.

The coat and trailer hint at Selene’s advanced powers and the introduction of a new, international coven. Newcomer Clementine Nicholson will play the part of Lena who, according to all the sources available at the moment, will play the “Nordic Coven’s greatest warrior and daughter of Vidar.”

With the role of "fierce female vampire with ambition to spare" being occupied by Lara Pulver ("Sherlock," "Da Vinci’s Demons") could it be that Selene has a powerful Nordic ally? She wants to stop the eternal war between the Vampires and Lycans and she’s prepared to "make the ultimate sacrifice" to do it. A line straight out of Norse Mythology if ever there was one.

Directed by Anna Foerster, “Underworld: Blood Wars” opens January 6, 2017.
