The fifth installment in the "Underworld" franchise now has title: "Underworld: Blood Wars." Until the official announcement by Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment, the sequel had been widely believed to be called "Underworld: Next Generation."

"Blood Wars" certainly sounds less "Star Trek"-like and more, well, bloody.

Kate Beckinsale returns in her role as Selene, joined by Theo James (“The Divergent Series”), who reprises his role as David from “Underworld Awakening”; Tobias Menzies (“Outlander”) as the formidable new Lycan leader; Lara Pulver (“Sherlock”) as an ambitious Vampire; Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”), again playing Vampire elder Thomas;  James Faulkner (“Game of Thrones”); Peter Andersson (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”); Clementine Nicholson; Bradley James (A&E’s “Damien”); and Daisy Head (“Fallen”).

Anna Foerster, cinematographer for such films as "Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "White House Down," is directing from a script by Cory Goodman (“The Last Witch Hunter,” “Priest”).

"Underworld: Blood Wars" is set to open Oct. 14.
