Fox has dropped the first claustrophobic trailer for its horror-thriller Underwater, which will pit Kristen Stewart against sea monsters at the bottom of the ocean.

The trailer is set in the vein of Aliens, as we see a scientific base seven miles beneath the surface being rocked by what appears to be an earthquake. The compound begins to flood, forcing the crew to evacuate. This is where the trouble really starts, as the scientists suddenly start being picked off by creatures with tentacles.

The film stars Stewart (Twilight), as well as TJ Miller (Deadpool), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) and Vincent Cassel (Ocean's 12) as the expedition leader at the facility. As they try to make the journey from the subterranean area to the surface, watching them being hunted in the dark also evokes shades of Predator, kaiju films like Pacific Rim and Cloverfield, as well as shark movies like The Meg and 47 Meters Down. Either way, fans will be eager to see the squad attempt a very harrowing sea-floor walk as they try to evade this unknown terror with a clear taste for human flesh.

Directed by William Eubank (The Signal), Underwater stars Kristen Stewart, TJ Miller, Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, John Gallagher Jr. and Mamoudou Athie. The film hits theaters Jan. 10, 2020.
