WrestleMania 36 may have been the last ride for WWE legend the Undertaker, who hinted at retirement in an Instagram post on Sunday night shortly after the two-night event concluded.
The "American Badass" returned as Biker Taker on Saturday — night one of WrestleMania — for his Boneyard Match against AJ Styles. Many wrestlers from past and present have praised the cinematic bout as one of the best, and certainly unique, spectacles in sports-entertainment history.
Undertaker has performed at 27 WrestleManias in a row, going 25-2 at the Show of Shows and an amazing 21-0 at one point. The wrestler's undefeated streak, appropriately referred to as "The Streak," was ended at WrestleMania 30 by Brock Lesnar.
Taker has hinted at retirement before, so it’s possible that he may eventually return again at some point. He famously left his hat and gear in the ring at WrestleMania 33 after losing for a second time to Roman Reigns, but eventually returned for several matches, including a short squash of John Cena at WrestleMania 34.
Undertaker: The Last Ride, a docuseries about the Deadman’s struggles with injuries and stepping away from the ring, is getting ready to air on the WWE Network, so he could be promoting that project with his IG post. His desire to redeem himself at this year’s WrestleMania following bad showings with Goldberg and others in recent years has been widely reported, however, and his acclaimed bout with Styles would be a great match to go out on.
