10 Natsuki Subaru Gets Too Much Hate (Re:Zero)

Subaru with a small smile

Considering Re:Zero's popularity, it's hard to believe that protagonist Natsuki Subaru is underrated. However, he's hated by fans and non-fans alike, who claim he's just another boring self-insert character. But there's honestly a lot more to Subaru than meets the eye.

While he comes off as average and unremarkable, he's got an incredible amount of inner strength, as well as a kind and loving heart. He goes through a lot of character development throughout the series, making him feel more authentic compared to other isekai protagonists. He may not be as cool or powerful as the others in the series, but his inner strength easily makes him husbando material.

9 Tadano Is Average, But He's Just As Lovable As Komi (Komi Can't Communicate)

Tadano in class in Komi Can't Communicate.

Everyone loves Komi Can't Communicate's titular female protagonist, and she's easily the most popular character in the entire series. However, she's not the only amazing protagonist. Hitohito Tadano is one of the sweetest, funniest, and most relatable protagonists to grace the small screen in some time.

He may not be as stunning as Komi or as quirky as the rest of the cast, but he has his own special charm that makes him a perfect husbando. But because Tadano is so average compared to everyone else, he often gets overlooked by fans. Though he doesn't get the same praise, he's just as lovable as Komi herself and deserves the same attention.

8 Kittan Is The Unsung Hero Of The Series (Gurren Lagann)

Gurren Lagann has many amazing characters for fans to choose from as a husbando or waifu. Most tend to go for Kamina, Simon, or even Viral. However, Kittan Bachika is another great husbando, though he's often overlooked in favor of the others.

From his very introduction, Kittan is always the unsung hero, stuck in the shadow of the popular heroes of the series. Though he's often left out, Kittan is just as heroic and iconic as the rest of Team Dai-Gurren, and the series wouldn't be the same without him.

Fruits Basket 2019 Ritsu Sohma crying

Every member of the mysterious Sohma family in Fruits Basket is adored by fans. However, there's no denying that some Sohmas are more popular than others. Ritsu Sohma is one of the few who gets little screen time and hardly any attention from fans.

Though he has very little presence in the story, he's still just as charming and alluring as the rest of the Sohma members. His sweet demeanor, beautiful appearance, and hilarious quirks make for a great potential husbando. Unfortunately, due to his small role in the series, he's often overlooked by more popular characters like Yuki or Kyo.

6 William's Cold & Reserved Personality Makes Him Appealing (Black Butler)

William T. Spears Black Buter Book Of Circus Scowl

When people think of Black Butler husbandos, their minds immediately go to Sebastian Michaelis, Grell Sutcliff, or even the Undertaker. However, there's one husbando in the series most fans tend to ignore. William is a tall, dark, and mysterious reaper partnered with Grell throughout the series.

He's quiet and reserved, making him pretty easy for most fans to ignore. However, his cold, no-nonsense attitude is perfect for fans who like a more serious husbando. He's got an air of sophistication about him that's unlike any of the other characters in the series, and his rectangular glasses give him an extra touch of appeal for fans of characters with glasses.

5 Takeo Gouda Is An Adorable Gentle Giant (My Love Story!!)

Takeo Gouda blushing in My Love Story!!

My Love Story!!'s Takeo Gouda isn't like the typical anime husbandos. He's large, muscular, and actually pretty intimidating at first glance. By comparison, he's far from the typical anime husbando. But while he doesn't have the conventional beauty of most favorites, Takeo's inner beauty makes him one of the best husbandos out there.

He's kind, friendly, and extremely loyal to those he loves. Many anime fans pass him up due to his looks, but he's one of the sweetest and most adorable gentle giants in anime history, and he deserves way more love.

4 Armin's Impressive Intelligence Makes Him A Noteworthy Husbando (Attack On Titan)

Most Attack on Titan fans will list Levi Ackerman or even Eren Jaeger as their favorite husbandos of the series, but there's one character who deserves just as much praise. Armin Arlet is often overlooked compared to these iconic husbandos even though he's just as worthy himself.

Many write Armin off as the weakest of the cast, but he's so much more than that. He's incredibly intelligent and uses his knowledge to his advantage on the battlefield, and his skills rival that of the top soldiers. Throughout the series, he's gone from a scared and insecure follower to a courageous and confident leader that deserves fans' acknowledgment.

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club has the most husbandos overall. Just about every character is fawned over by the fans, especially the main group of boys. However, the original four boys undoubtedly steal the show. Most fans will list Haru, Rin, or Makoto as their favorite, and some will even claim Nagisa.

Meanwhile, newcomer Rei Ryugazaki often ends up left behind. He's probably the most underappreciated of the main group, though he's just as lovable, handsome, and fun. He makes a great addition to the original group dynamic and deserves more credit for his role in the series.

2 Rock Lee Is An Unlikely Husbando, But He's One Of The Best (Naruto)

Rock Lee from Naruto in the Forest of Death during the Chunin Exams.

Naruto is yet another series filled with many potential husbandos. Of course, there's the usual suspects like Sasuke, Itachi, or Kakashi, but some unlikely characters are just as deserving as them. Rock Lee looks like he'd be the last guy anyone would consider a husbando, with his dorky bowl cut, bizarre outfit, and goofy personality.

He plays a largely comedic role within the series, making him easy for fans to overlook. However, as silly as he is, Rock Lee is actually a perfect husbando candidate. He's kind, loving, and willing to do whatever it takes to protect the one he loves, making him an ideal dream guy for just about anyone. He's just as lovable as any of the other guys in the series and deserves far more love from fans.

1 Alphonse Elric Is Overshadowed By His Brother (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Alphonse Elric happy in his human form in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

The Elric brothers of Fullmetal Alchemist are some of the most beloved anime characters of all time. But, it's no secret that of the two, protagonist Edward gets the most love from fans. Though his younger brother Alphonse is just as amazing, he doesn't get near as much hype somehow.

This could be due to the fact that Al spends most of the series with his soul bound to a suit of armor, or it could just be that Ed benefits from the perks of being the main character. No matter the reason, Al deserves a lot more credit than he's given most of the time. His strength, resilience, and patience to deal with his hotheaded brother are the backbone of the series, and much of the story wouldn't be possible without him.
