Uncharted has had a long and rocky road to production, shifting directors and screenwriters along the way. It has been in development since 2008, with Avi Arad attached as the producer. Ruben Fleischer (Venom) signed on to direct the film in March, making him the seventh director attached to the project. Other filmmakers previously attached to Uncharted include Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Shawn Levy (Free Guy).

The Uncharted video game series focuses on the life of treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who travels across the world to uncover various mysteries and discover treasures. The film acts as a prequel to the games, with Holland playing a younger version of Drake. Wahlberg's Sully will act as his mentor and father figure. The film features a script from Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted stars Holland and Wahlberg alongside Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle. The film is set to arrive in theaters on July 16, 2021.
