Sony may have teased the next entry in the Uncharted franchise. On YouTube, the video game company shared a one-minute advertisement promoting the PlayStation 5. Additionally, a young girl with a torch in a cave appears and dusts off an artifact in another instance. Following the quick reveal, many fans believe the unidentified girl is Cassie Drake, the teenage daughter of Uncharted's Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher. Consequently, some people have assumed Cassie could serve as the franchise's next protagonist in the rumored Uncharted 5.RELATED: HBO's The Last of Us Confirms a Subtle Uncharted Easter Egg

Will Naughty Dog Make Uncharted 5?

On Twitter, fans reacted to the possibly colossal bombshell, with one user pointing out the resemblance between the in-game character of Cassie and the girl quickly shown in the PlayStation 5 promotion. However, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann recently confirmed the game studio was "moving on" from Uncharted following the success of the series' fourth installment, 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. "Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games — and we're able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we're done," said Druckmann.

Previously, a December 2022 report claimed the Uncharted franchise would receive a reboot but not under the leadership of Naughty Dog. Instead, an "unknown developer" will lead the alleged project with Naughty Dog's assistance. If the rumors prove true, the Uncharted game will join other franchises receiving reboots, including Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill 2, Dead Space, and The Witcher.

Released in 2007, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune marked the first entry in the action-adventure series. The game follows Nathan Drake, related to the 16th-century explorer Sir Francis Drake, on his quest to discover the lost treasure of the mythical city of El Dorado. Two years following its release date, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves launched, which earned over 200 Game of the Year accolades. Instead of El Dorado, the second installment focuses on Nathan's search for the Cintamani Stone and Shambhala. The third entry, 2011's Drake's Deception, included a mission to find the lost city of Iram of the Pillars.

In 2022, the Uncharted franchise received a film adaptation with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The movie also featured Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan, Antonio Banderas as Santiago Moncada and Outer Banks star Rudy Pankow as Nathan's brother Sam. In response to Uncharted's release, the adaptation earned mixed reviews but became one of the highest-grossing cinematic takes on a video, after Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel.
