When fans were introduced to the adventurer, Nathan Drake, in Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, it's hard to assume anyone expected him to become such an iconic part of PlayStation's history. Now, with four games and two spin-offs released, it seems like Drake's story is complete. However, there is still one avenue that has yet to be fully explored, and it would be a great way to bring him back to consoles.

With an Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as a much younger Nathan Drake coming out, it seems like now is a great time for a game that chronicles the character's first adventure. While Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the PS Vita is a prequel that covers events that took place before the first game, there has never been a game that shows Drake on his first true adventure.

The story would see Nate embark on finding yet another adventure to find lost treasure with his partner and surrogate father figure, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. Since he would be much younger than the previous titles, it would be a great opportunity to see Sully in a more active role as a cavalier adventurer and con man. With Nate being much younger as well, the game's antagonist could be tied to Sully's checkered past, and Nate would take it upon himself to get involved in protecting his friend.

From a gameplay perspective, Nate has always been slightly clumsy when jumping from ledge to ledge and escaping falling structures. Titles like Uncharted: Drake's Deception and A Thief's End also show the hero as a child with an affinity for heights even if he isn't a master climber. An origin game would see him at his clumsiest as he hangs and balances on ledges much higher than he is used to at the time. His fighting and shooting style wouldn't be as perfect either and show just how much work he has ahead of him before he becomes the seasoned adventurer fans know and love.

With a total of six games, there aren't many locations that Drake and his companions haven't visited. However, a prequel could set his first journey closer to home or in a location with no land in sight. For example, the new game could take Nathan to the dense forests of North America to find an artifact or another lost civilization. However, with Nate's diving experience, it wouldn't be a stretch for his first journey be nautical -- perhaps he could even seek the lost city of Atlantis. Even after a decade of games, there are still countless possibilities for where to take the character.

It feels almost criminal that Nathan Drake's earlier adventures haven't been explored in games yet. 2013's Tomb Raider proved that taking an iconic character back to basics with a prequel can help strengthen a franchise. Following a similar route and taking a step back to Nathan Drake's humble beginnings may be the first step in revitalizing the Uncharted series in a way that paints its hero in a whole new light.
