Netflix's The Umbrella Academy introduced fans to the Hargreeves family, a group of estranged, adopted children with superpowers. None of them had an easy childhood and most of them never grew out of their sibling rivalries and resentments, which played a key role in Season 1. While they begrudgingly worked together to try and stop the apocalypse, in the end, they failed and were forced to travel back in time to try again.

Following that failure, the Hargreeves family will have to find new ways to work together in The Umbrella Academy Season 2, changing relationship dynamics and further fleshing out those that were underdeveloped in the process. While there isn't enough time to explore every possible combination of siblings in Season 2, here are some we'd like to see more of.

Number Five & Vanya

The beginning of Season 1 sets up a close friendship between Number Five and Vanya when they were younger. After Five disappears, Vanya stays up to keep the lights on in case he comes back. She also makes peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches, the same snack Five makes when he finally gets back to the Academy. When Five decides to tell someone about the impending apocalypse, he chooses to trust Vanya. Despite all this, they don't have any meaningful interactions after the second episode.

While it's been several years since they've seen each other, it would be great to see more of this friendship. Vanya doesn't appear to have been close with any of her other siblings growing up. Plus, as Season 1 clearly indicates, she could really use a friend. Five is annoyed by most people, including his siblings, but he's almost nice to Vanya.

Vanya & Klaus

Klaus and Vanya in The Umbrella Academy Season 1

Klaus loves to annoy his siblings but he and Vanya never interact outside of family gatherings. As a result, their individual plots don't intersect except for at the beginning and end of Season 1. Despite how little they interact, Klaus and Vanya actually have a lot in common. They're often both ignored and underestimated by their family. They're not fighters but as it turns out, they might be the two most powerful members of the team. When Luther locks Vanya away, Klaus is the first to object, saying that they should be helping her with her powers instead. He can also sympathize with her position, since their father locked him in a mausoleum while he was figuring out his own powers.

Diego, Allison & Five

Diego, Allison, and Number Five in The Umbrella Academy Season 1

As everyone else was dealing with their own problems, Diego, Allison and Number Five briefly teamed up in Season 1 to investigate Harold Jenkins. Individually, they're all pretty competent. Diego is a police academy dropout turned vigilante, Allison is good at reading people and manipulating them with or without her powers and Five is a time traveling assassin. Together, they were able to figure out that Jenkins was actually Vanya's new boyfriend, Leonard Peabody. If these three had worked together throughout the first season instead of constantly running off on their own investigations, they could've uncovered the truth a lot faster.

Diego & Vanya

Diego and Vanya in The Umbrella Academy Season 1

As comic fans know, the television adaptation of Umbrella Academy made several changes. Among those was Diego and Vanya's relationship, which was left out of the Netflix series. In the source material, Diego is actually in love with Vanya but doesn't know how to express it and ends up being pretty mean to her. In contrast, they each get their own love interests in the television show. Still, certain elements of that relationship remain. Out of all the siblings, Diego is the most bitter about Vanya's tell-all book and the most adamant that she doesn't belong in their family. Nevertheless, they both agree that their mother, Grace, is more than just a robot. Later when Luther locks Vanya away, Diego also comes to her defense.

Given how their characters developed in Season 1, it might be a bit awkward to introduce a romance between them now. Instead, it would be interesting to learn more about their relationship growing up and find out why Diego in particular is so resentful of Vanya.

Ben & Anyone Besides Klaus

Ben Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy Season 1

Seeing as Ben is dead, he hasn't really interacted with anyone aside from Klaus since they were kids. Ben is still dead in Season 2 but now that Klaus can give him corporeal form, it would be entertaining to see him interact with the rest of his siblings. It's not clear if he was close with any them as a child or if any of them knew he was haunting Klaus this entire time, but any conversation between Ben and the Academy is sure to be fascinating. While it all depends on Klaus being willing and able to use his powers, it'd be fun to see Ben come back and potentially take a more active role in the team.

Based on the Dark Horse Comics series created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin Min. Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy is currently available on Netflix and Season 2 will be released on July 31.
