Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a fourth and final season.

According to Deadline, the final season has "been largely written." Steve Blackman, who developed the comic-based adaptation for the streaming service, will remain on as executive producer and showrunner. "I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago," Blackman said in a statement. "But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."

The first season of The Umbrella Academy debuted on Netflix in 2019 and was one of the streamer's Top 3 most popular series of the year. The show, which is based on the comic book of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, follows the titular team, who were all adopted as children by billionaire Reginald Hargreeves and trained to use their powers. Season 2 premiered in July 2020 and saw the team stuck in the 1960s and having to prevent the apocalypse again. Season 3 was released in June 2022 and opened at #1 in Netflix's English-language TV weekly rankings with 124.5M hours viewed and spent five weeks in the Top 10.

Where Season 3 Left the Hargreeves Siblings

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 ended with the team stepping into a brand-new timeline — one where they were without powers, missing a few siblings and already under the watchful eye of their dad, Reginald Hargreeves. The final moments of the finale saw the siblings choose to break up the proverbial band and go their separate ways. No plot details have been revealed for Season 4 at this time. It is also unknown whether series regulars Adam Godley, Genesis Rodriguez and Britne Oldford will be back for the final season after the Season 3 finale left their characters' fates uncertain.
