WARNING: The following contains spoilers for What If...? Season 1, Episode 8, "What If... Ultron Won?," streaming now on Disney+.

When Thanos got his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet and started filling it with Infinity Stones, it really was one of the scariest sights in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As he grabbed the Mind Stone and snapped half of life away in the main Marvel continuity, he cemented his status as one of the most iconic villains in all of cinema. However, thanks to "What If... Ultron Won?," we're quickly seeing Tony Stark's rogue robot is indeed much more powerful with the gauntlet than the Mad Titan ever was or could dream of being.

Now, this isn't to knock Thanos, as he really was badass with the gems, manipulating reality to foil the Guardians of the Galaxy, then using raw power to bring Iron Man and Doctor Strange's squad on Titan to their knees too. However, as successful as his ensuing Wakandan mission was, when he took out even bigger guns, there were flaws.

Thanos killed in What If?

Firstly, Steve Rogers almost held him off, with the villain even surprised the virtuous Captain America was worthy enough to fend off the gauntlet for a bit. Then we saw Thanos struggling against Scarlet Witch -- she even technically beat him and managed to destroy the Mind Stone,  only for Thanos to reverse time to get the win and the Snap.

In addition, when his younger self had the tech-gauntlet in Endgame, he still couldn't dominate Earth's Mightiest Heroes, especially Captain Marvel, and perform a second Snap. In fact, he didn't take any of the heroes out with the gems. Admittedly, this could be chalked up to both versions not being as experienced, but still, one would have thought he'd be more commanding.

It's the total opposite with this Ultron, who initially just uses the Mind Stone to destroy the Avengers and burn Thanos in half in a split second. He quickly embeds all the gems into his body and goes off destroying realities, consuming universe after universe. The interesting thing is he doesn't even use all the gems all the time. He deploys his bots, but when the going gets tough, he dispatches enemies with ease thanks to the gauntlet's power.

Ultron in What If... Ultron Won?

Even in his fight with Captain Marvel there's no big struggle -- he kills her at will by becoming a bomb, before altering reality to turn into a Galactus-like figure to devour a universe. Ultron later batters the Watcher through various realities, never once needing to Snap anything away or warp the battlefield to his advantage.

It's astounding how he takes on combat pretty fairly, which is why Uatu eventually flees and goes to Strange Supreme for help. He knows he can't tackle Ultron, whose power is so mighty, alone. Ultron's just better than Thanos or even Strange, both of whom would manipulate time in desperate moments. He, however uses his fists and nuking abilities, plus he doesn't hide, hunting down all who oppose him. He's mastered the relics to become a multiversal god, which doesn't bode well for when Strange comes to brawl.

To see Ultron with his Infinity Gauntlet outshining Thanos, Episode 8 of What If...? is streaming now on Disney+.
