During Skybound's 2020 Holiday Xpo event, its editor in chief, Sean Mackiewicz, announced a new kaiju comic book series debuting from Skybound/Image Comics in March 2021, created by James Harren (RumbleB.P.R.D.) and colored by Eisner-award winning Dave Stewart (HellboyThe Umbrella Academy). This time, mankind is the monster to fear.

Ultramega will bring a new apocalyptic spin to the classic monster story, centering its plot in a world where almost everyone has turned into a kaiju due to a cosmic plague. The world's only hope is left with three, powered individuals who have not turned and dare to battle against the beasts. Untold wreckage is left in the wake, but the Ultramega team carries onwards.

Ultramega #1 begins its pages by introducing us to one of the Ultramega, who seems to have the ability to trigger kaiju transformations in those infected with the unnamed virus. Its world is bleak and within seconds we see a kaiju awaken, threatening to kill a nearby boy, but that threat only pushes the Ultramega man to continue to protect what's left of humanity.

Skybound provided CBR with a sneak peek of Ultramega #1 from James Harren, Dave Stewart, Rus Wooton, Sean Mackiewicz and Andres Juarez. You can see CBR's preview below, alongside the solicitation information for the book.
