A new superhero action-comedy from Mexican luchador Blue Demon Jr., Ultra Violet & Blue Demon, has been given a pilot order by Disney Channel.

According to Deadline, Blue Demon Jr. is set to star and executive produce the series alongside Pokemon: Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, who will both serve as writers and executive producers.

Ultra Violet & Blue Demon will focus on 13-year-old Violet and be told through her perspective as she is chosen by a magical luchador mask to be the successor to her uncle, luchador Blue Demon Jr. -- played by Blue Demon Jr. himself -- who secretly leads a double life as a superhero.

The series is described as a coming-of-age story that will see Violet begin training to become a superhero in her own right after being chosen by the mask, and maintaining a secret identity, all while navigating through her life.

Currently, the pilot is cast-contingent on finding an actor to portray Violet on the Disney Channel series, with casting currently taking place in Mexico and Los Angeles under casting director Carla Hool. If the pilot's cast is successfully locked in, production can be expected to begin within months.
