A Ubisoft developer reportedly hinted that the studio planned to release a development update for Massive Entertainment's upcoming open-world story-driven Star Wars video game in 2023.Ubisoft's Creative Director, Julian Gerighty (@jgerighty), posted a message greeting the New Year to his social media. The post included an image of the iconic Star Wars logo, which led to fans speculating that this might indicate a development update for Massive Entertainment's upcoming Star Wars title sometime in 2023. While Gerighty remained cryptic regarding the exact date of the rumored update for the Star Wars project, Massive Entertainment previously reported that development for the title was proceeding steadily. The studio additionally shared a post to social media announcing it had begun to accept applicants for the game's playtesting stage in early December 2022, which some fans speculated was a sign that a game teaser will soon be revealed. The post also included a link for interested applicants who were interested in taking part in the playtesting phase, though Massive Entertainment further claimed it will prioritize applicants who lived close to its headquarters in Malmö, Sweden.

Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Project

Massive Entertainment has largely remained silent regarding the ongoing development of its unnamed Star Wars video game since parent company Ubisoft announced it was collaborating with Disney and Lucasfilm Games for the project back in 2021. The upcoming game will reportedly be an open-world and story-driven Star Wars experience built on Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, which the developer previously used in the development of several prior AAA video games. Regarding the Star Wars project, Gerighty said, "This is a lore that we love, and we want to do it justice with a game and story that bring both lifelong and new fans on an immersive and outstanding journey that will stay with them for years."

Star Wars Titles in Development

Several other studios additionally announced more Star Wars games were in development. Developer Respawn Entertainment revealed it was working on a pair of first-person shooter and real-time strategy titles set in the Star Wars universe, in addition to its latest entry into its beloved Star Wars Jedi series, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Game publisher Saber Interactive also reportedly picked up production for the highly-anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was previously managed by Aspyr Media.

Massive Entertainment's open-world Star Wars video game has yet to receive an official release date.
