UPDATE: The police have deemed the Ubisoft Montreal hostage situation a hoax.

The Montreal police are currently responding to what's said to be a hostage situation at Ubisoft Montreal.

"Police operation in progress at the corner of Saint-Laurent and St-Viateur," Police Montreal tweeted. "We ask people to avoid the area. The [SPVM] currently validating information and further details will follow." According to Le Journal de Montreal, dozens are reportedly being held hostage at the Ubisoft Montreal building (which houses other businesses), with some barricaded in conference rooms and others taking refuge on the terrace and blocking the doorway. It was also noted that people took cover after receiving a threatening phone call. The incident began at approximately 1:30 p.m. ET, and there is currently a large police presence in the area, including the SPVM tactical group.

According to Radio-Canada, the issue is related to an armed robbery.

Hyper Scape Senior Community Developer Eric Pope also commented on the incident, sharing a screenshot of what he says is his team standing on top of the roof.

Another individual shared live footage for the situation.

Police have reportedly requested no one try to reach any Ubisoft employees by phone in the event that they're in hiding. A Ubisoft employee also told CTV that others were told via a company memo to hide in areas with locks and remain silent.

Ubisoft is the publisher of such titles as Watch Dogs, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Assassin's Creed,  Tom Clancy's The Division, Hyper Scape, Far Cry, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, For Honor and much more.
