Ubisoft's remake of the beloved PlayStation 2 platformer Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been delayed again.

Announced in a tweet from the official Prince of Persia Twitter account, Prince of Persia: Sand of Time Remake will no longer launch in 2021. The developer, Ubisoft India, also confirmed that the game will not make an appearance at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase, which will take place on June 12 in collaboration with E3 2021.

"As you might have already read, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will not be in Ubisoft Forward. We are making great progress for our game to release next year, but we are not ready to share any additional information just yet. We will share an update as soon as we are ready," reads the tweet published by Ubisoft.

This marks the third time Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed. Announced in 2020, the game was initially meant to launch in January of 2021. The initial trailers for the project were met by disappointment from fans, many of whom expressed dissatisfaction with what appeared to be sub-par graphics. While the game's initial delay did not reference fan's disappointment, instead citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it's possible that the negative reception influenced the decision to push the release date back.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was then delayed to March 2021, after which it was delayed again to "a later date." The most recent announcement confirms that the game will no longer launch in 2021 but doesn't provide a specific release date beyond 2022.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is widely considered one of the best platformers released for the PlayStation 2. The game follows the titular Prince, who wields a magical dagger that can manipulate time, as he attempts to save his kingdom from a traitorous Vizier. The game was adapted into a live-action film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Kingsley in 2010 and was met with mixed critical reviews.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is currently set to launch in 2022 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility.
