Fans of the Fast and Furious franchise may have to brace themselves for the potential departure of star Tyrese Gibson due to his growing rift with Dwayne Johnson.

In an Instagram post, Gibson threatened to leave Universal Pictures' blockbuster series if Johnson returns for the ninth film, writing, "I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne [sic] is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce [sic]."

The actor, who debuted as Roman Pearce in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious, has feuded with Johnson over the delay on production of Fast 9, rumored to be caused by plans for a spinoff focused on Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw. That's expected to be released in 2019.

Gibson has previously called Johnson "selfish" for moving forward with the spinoff, accusing the action star of putting his own self-interest ahead of the franchise. Vin Diesel has attempted to cool the feud, saying production delays are due to the ninth film needing more work.
