Ever since Punchline was revealed as Joker's new partner in crime, she has created tidal waves of social media reactions. Writer James Tynion IV intends on delivering an original Gotham rogue.

The series event "The Joker War" has been building on the various Bat-titles and anticipation for Punchline has been growing along with it. Inevitably, it's going to lead to a head-on collision with Harley, who, in the early years, endured the Joker as his henchman. "Years ago, Harley was in that role in Joker's gang, but she's never going back," Tynion said.

He then explained why there was a need for Joker to have a new underling, "I wanted to have a character to bounce off of the Joker, and work as a foil for him in a radically different way than Harley Quinn." He then assured readers that all questions they have about Punchline will be answered soon. Question such as "Why is she in this game? What is her relationship with the Joker? What does she think about Harley Quinn?"

While Punchline first made cameos in Batman #89 and Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3, the details regarding the new character remain limited. What is known is that she's Joker's lieutenant in his war and that instantly separates her from Joker's original henchwoman, who was constantly disrespected and never seen as an equal in their unhealthy relationship.

The six-part series event "The Joker War" is written by James Tynion IV with art by Jorge Jiminez and releases May 20, in Batman #95.
