Two Separate Writers Reportedly Working on “Aquaman” Film

While it’s still not officially confirmed by Warner Bros. that “Aquaman” will be a part of 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” The Hollywood Reporter has word that a solo film starring the character is in current development — with two screenwriters working separately on the project.

According to THR, both Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad are at work on “Aquaman” scripts, a “dual track” development where Warner Bros. is seeking the best possible product from both versions. Beall wrote 2013’s “Gangster Squad,” and multiple episodes of ABC’s “Castle.” In 2012, he was reported to be at work on a “Justice League” script. Johnstad has past experience with Zack Snyder (director of “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman” and the upcoming “Justice League”), as a co-writer on both “300” and “300: Rise of an Empire.”

An “Aquaman” movie has not been officially announced, but Warner Bros. has claimed nine upcoming release dates for as-yet unrevealed DC Comics-based film, spanning from 2016 to 2020. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is scheduled to open on March 25, 2016.

“Game of Thrones” alum Jason Momoa has been widely reported as playing Aquaman on the big screen, perhaps as early as “Batman v Superman,” though the casting has not been officially confirmed. One of DC’s most famous but also most frequently mocked superheroes, Aquaman was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, and first appeared in 1941’s “More Fun Comics” #73. The character, who has been a focal point of the current “New 52” era of DC’s comics, has yet to appear in a live-action feature film.
