The Twisted Metal series has wrapped filming.

Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith took to Twitter to share the news, confirming that filming for Peacock's live-action adaptation of the hit PlayStation game had concluded. The message was accompanied by what appears to be a glass trophy sporting the Twisted Metal logo although it's unconfirmed whether this is the final visual that will be used for the series. Beyond the announcement, Smith went into detail regarding the development of the project, explaining some of the trials and tribulations the creative team underwent during shooting.

"The cast and crew of Twisted Metal was something special," Smith wrote. "Even with lightning delays, extreme heat, and cars that wouldn’t do as they’re told, everyone worked as hard as they could to make sure Twisted Metal kicked as much as possible." The showrunner went on to say that the final day of filming was "like the last of camp," noting that the crew ate ice cream out the back of Sweet Tooth's ice cream van. While post-production begins, it's currently unknown when the show will premiere.

Twisted Metal's story details remain scarce but the Peacock series sports an all-star cast. Marvel Cinematic Universe star Anthony Mackie will both produce and star in the show alongside Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Will Arnett (The LEGO Batman Movie, Bojack Horseman) and AEW wrestler Samoa Joe.

Mackie will be stepping into the role of John Doe, a "fast-talking smart-ass milkman who drives like a speed demon and doesn't remember his past." When he eventually happens upon a chance to achieve his dream of finding a home and community, he's forced into a game of survival in all-out, visceral vehicular combat. "If you remember the video game, it's just us driving cars and blowing stuff up and trying to make it to New San Francisco," said Mackie.

Twisted Metal is a long-running PlayStation franchise that began in 1995 on the PlayStation One. Initially developed by SingleTrac, the game allows players to engage in brutal car fights with a variety of eccentric characters, including the aforementioned serial killer clown Sweet Tooth. The series has previously been adapted into a one-shot comic book published by DC Comics and a film version was announced in 2012 but ultimately fell through when Sony passed on the project.

Twisted Metal does not yet have a release date.
