Catherine E. Coulson, known to fans as the Log Lady on David Lynch's cult classic television series "Twin Peaks" passed away Monday at the age of 71.

"Today, I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson," Lynch wrote to The Hollywood Reporter in a statement following Coulson's death. "Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends -- she was filled with love for all people, for her family, for her work. She was a tireless worker."

Coulson worked as a camera assist on Lynch's debut film, "Eraserhead," where the two first developed the idea for the character that would become the iconic Log Lady on "Twin Peaks," who she played in both series of the series and the prequel film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me."

Coulson was set to reprise her role in the upcoming Showtime revival series.

"She had a great sense of humor -- she loved to laugh and make people laugh," Lynch said. "She was a spiritual person -- a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady."
