Shojo manga generally has a pretty heavy focus on romance, with some of the most popular series being centered around couples. Shows such as Sailor Moon started because of a forbidden romance between Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion. Other shojo series revolve around highschool age romance, or young women beginning their adult life and dealing with the struggles that come along with it.

That isn't to say that there aren't a lot of great men in these anime series. In fact, most shojo series depict complicated characters, and many storylines set out to show both the bad and good side of the romance interests.

10 Tuxedo Mask

Tuxedo Mask is the male protagonist of Sailor Moon and represents Earth. Although he doesn't have powers equal to the scouts, he often appears to help get them out of tough situations or to help Usagi.

Tuxedo Mask does have a tendency to get kidnapped, but he is fated to rule over the Earth as it's king alongside Usagi. Tuxedo Mask is a kind man in general and is especially patient with his daughter Chibiusa.

9 Zero Kiryu

Zero is one of the tritagonists of the anime Vampire Knight, where he is a vampire hunter who patrols the night class along with Yuki. Zero is slowly turning into a vampire and has to wrestle with his desire to drink blood.

Despite his hate for vampires, after Yuki's true identity is revealed, he accepts her as her wife, even after he learns that she is pregnant with Kaname's child.

8 Kyo Sohma

Kyo is the cat in the Chinese zodiac and is looked down upon by several of the other members. His destiny is to be sealed after graduating high school, but meeting a homeless girl named Tohru Honda helps to change his fate.

Kyo does have a bit of a temper as he doesn't know how to deal with his emotions at first. As Kyo grows older, though, he becomes more honest with himself and protective over those close to him.

7 Asuma Matsumi

Kiss Him Not Me is a story about a girl who loses a ton of weight and attracts the attention of several of her fellow classmates. Natsume is a bit different, though, as he has always taken notice of and been kind to Kae.

Natsume is also kind to everyone around him and see's the rest of the boys as his friends. He is the last to realize that he has feelings for Kae but is the most protective over her throughout the series.

6 Takashi Natsume

Natsume's Book of Friend's is a series more focused on small adventures involving youkai. Natsume is a kind boy who shows patience with both humans and youkai, often helping them to solve their problems.

Despite his lenient nature though, Natsume is not above fighting troublesome youkai in order to get them to behave. Since the anime isn't focused on romance, viewers can see how Natsume acts while being on his own.

5 Takumi Ichinose

Takumi is an extremely popular character in the series Nana and is the bassist of the band Trapnest. He is described as being a passionate workaholic and isn't afraid of setbacks in life, much like his wife Nana K.

In the series Nana K. becomes pregnant, and Takumi immediately agrees to marry her and take care of the baby, without even confirming that it's his biological child. He has a focus on making his wife comfortable and is extremely honest with her.

4 Izumi Miyamura

Izumi has been extremely popular among manga readers since Horimiya's debut in 2011. He is a pierced and tattooed high schooler who is rather reserved in class but starts to open up after a chance meeting with Kyouko's little brother.

Izumi is extremely oblivious to his own self worth and feelings but is excellent with young children and eager to make those around him happy.

3 Kiyokazu Fujimoto

Fujimoto is a little known shojo character from the Clamp series Kobato. He is a nursery teacher with a love for children; due to past relationships, he becomes suspicious of Kobato when they first meet.

Fujimoto is incredibly dedicated to his work and has a tragic connection to Kobato, who he forced to forget about for several years. After some divine intervention, the two finally get together sixteen years later.

2 Kijin

Kijin is the owner of a bed and breakfast in the spirit world who takes away Aoi to be his bride. Despite the fact that he clearly wants to marry her, he allows her to start her own kitchen to pay back her grandpa's debt instead.

Kijin embraces her cooking but still strives to naturally get close to her so that the two can start a relationship on their own terms instead of her grandpa's.

1 Water God

The Water Dragon's Bride is a recently finished shojo manga that revolves around a young girl named Asasi who is brought into the past as a child. Asahi is forced to grow up there, even after the villagers try to sacrifice her.

After becoming an adult, she becomes the official bride of the Water God, who assumes a human form to look after her and slowly learns to love.
