Lisa Hanawalt, known for her work on BoJack Horseman and Hot Dog Taste Test, will helm a new animated Netflix series titled Tuca & Bertie.
According to Netflix, the comedic series will explore "the friendship between two 30-year-old women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird." In addition to creating the show, Hanawalt will serve as an executive producer alongside Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen, all of whom work on BoJack Horseman with her. Tiffany Haddish, the voice of Tuca, will also executive produce the show.
There is currently no casting information available for the Tuca & Bertie beyond Haddish's role as Tuca. Haddish is known for her performance in Girls Trip and will next appear in The Last O.G., starring Tracy Morgan.
BoJack Horseman animator ShadowMachine will animate the series, which Michael Eisner's Tornante company is producing. Although the first image for Tuca & Bertie -- which you can see above -- indicates that the new series will share similarities with BoJack Horseman, Hanawalt confirmed on Twitter that the two shows will not take place in the "same universe."
Tuca & Bertie Season 1 will consist of ten episodes. The release date has not yet been announced.
