Truth Seekers follows Gus, a broadband installation technician for the SMYLE Network. However, his job isn't as straightforward as his title sounds, as he's also an amateur paranormal investigator. SMYLE has hired a new employee, Elton John (no, not that one), who is easily frightened and has a resume as long as his arm. Elton finds himself constantly unsettled at even the prospect of ghosts, but coincidentally is also in tune with the beyond. Elton's paranormal connection and lengthy employment record converge as he assists Gus in solving customer problems, be those broadband issues or something much spookier.

Here is every job Elton has mentioned in Truth Seekers.

Receptionist in a Vet's Office

In Episode 1, "The Haunting of Connelly's Nook," Gus and Elton attend the property of Miss Connelly, who reported an issue with the television service. The problem, as the team find out, is that Miss Connelly is lonely and has cut her cable to make people visit her. She mentions that she misses her old dog, prompting Elton to reveal he once worked as a receptionist in a veterinary office. He doesn't have much to say on the matter beyond the fact that the office always reeked of cat urine.

Worked for an Architect

True to form, the lonely Miss Connelly needs help with her TV service once again, but this time she is not the cause. Her television turns on well enough, but it seems to be showing a live feed of a hidden room. Gus and Elton head upstairs to investigate a banging sound, and Elton states that the room they are standing in should be larger, based on the architecture of the building. He reveals that he "worked for an architect" a few years back in response to Gus's questioning glance. His prior experience proves to be of use, as the two discover a hidden room, complete with a hidden secret about Miss Connelly's father and Pepper the dog.

Cleaner in a War Museum

In Episode 2, "The Watcher on The Water," Gus and Elton are hired to fix the Wi-Fi connection in an old hotel. The hotel, as a surprise to nobody, has a secret passage that leads to an underground World War II bunker and an old computer that's haunted by a British soldier. Conveniently, Elton reveals that he was once a cleaner in a war museum, which explains his knowledge of the inner workings of the bunker's solid doors.

Worked for a Tree Surgeon

Gus, Elton and Astrid, their new teammate, head out in search of a giant cat in Episode 5, "The Ghost of the Beast of Bodmin." They receive a tip from a YouTube commenter, complete with an image. Elton states that they can determine the size of the cat by comparing it with the size of the tree it's photographed beside, revealing that he once worked for family of tree surgeons "a few years back." By this time in the series, Gus has mentioned so many of his odd former jobs that this is no longer surprising to Gus or Astrid.

Line Cook

As SMYLE attempt to get 100% of the UK covered by their network, the team is given the job of performing a site survey in an old mental institution. En route, Gus, Elton and Astrid fondly reminisce on their favorite roadside service station meals. Elton tells them of yet another of his previous jobs -- he spent two weeks as a line cook at the Little Chef in the Oxford bypass services. This role serves no purpose to the team beyond Elton providing clarification on menu items.

The Hinckley Boy

While not actually one of Elton's job's, it is worth mentioning his past, which is uncovered in Episode 7, "The Hinckley Boy," as the team heads to his hometown. He reveals his past experience with the paranormal by describing an event that occurred in his childhood home involving the sudden appearance and disappearance of a woman on fire. Elton explains that the media attention following the event drove him and his family into hiding, and Elton himself eventually began to live a nomadic lifestyle, thus explaining his many jobs over the years. It is perhaps providence that Elton and Gus met, as the Hinckley Boy case connects the two in more ways than they realize.

Starring Nick Frost, Samson Kayo, Emma D’Arcy, Susan Wokoma, Malcolm McDowell and Simon Pegg, the eight-episode first season of Truth Seekers is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video
