True Detective Season 3 Release Date, New Photos Unveiled

The eagerly anticipated third season of True Detective now has a premiere date along with a fresh set of photos from the upcoming season.

Returning to HBO on January 13, the anthology crime drama returns to its roots in the latest season follows Arkansas detective Wayne Hays, played by Mahershala Ali, as he investigates the disappearances of two children across multiple time periods starting in 1980. HBO's announcement of the premiere date was accompanied by new images from Season 3 including co-stars Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo.

Details about Dorff and Ejogo's characters are still currently under wraps but the former looks to be Hays' partner while Ejogo's character appears to be someone assisting Hays with the search for the missing children.

With its bleak use of color and a stoically introspective Ali front and center, Season 3 of True Detective looks to be a return to moody form after the mixed reception to the anthology series' second season.

Returning on HBO for its third season on January 13, True Detective is created by Nic Pizzolatto, who also serves as showrunner and writer. Season 3 stars Mahershala Ali, Mamie Gummer, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Carmen Ejogo, and Ray Fisher.
