Though its debut has been pushed back into the summer, production on the third season of NBC's Hannibal is humming right along.

Today Variety has word that True Blood alum Rutina Wesley has joined the serial killer drama in a key role culled from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon. Wesley will be playing Reba McClane, a blind woman whose romance with psychotic Francis Dolarhyde helps sooth his killer instinct. Hobbit star Richard Armitage is set to play Dolarhyde.

Rather than a straight adaptation, the third year of Hannibal is expected to cull storylines and ideas from many of Harris' original novels and mesh them into one story.
