"True Blood" alum Kelly Overton will star in Syfy's futuristic reimagining of "Van Helsing."

Ordered in November by the cable channel, the sci-fi action drama centers on the resurrected Vanessa Helsing (Overton), next in a lineage of warriors who must lead humanity against a world controlled by vampires.

The series has also cast Jonathan Scarfe ("Hell on Wheels"), Axel, a career Marine with unwavering devotion and loyalty to both duty and his wards, despite years of isolation and endless vampire attacks; Christopher Heyerdahl ("Hell on Wheels") as Sam, a survivor of the vampire Rising who relies on his strength and observational skills to stay alive; Paul Johansson ("Mad Men") Dimitri, a vampire turned before the Rising, he is now the patient and calculating leader of the vampires; David Cubitt ("Ray Donovan") as John, another survivor of the vampire Rising, whose actions are fueled by anger, prejudice, suspicion and fear; and Tim Guinee ("Homeland") as Flesh, a vampire foot soldier who does battle with Vanessa and conceals a tragic past.

Neil LaBute will write and executive produce "Van Helsing," whose 13-episode first season will debut this fall on Syfy.
