True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard Could Swoop in to The Crow Role

Contrary to an earlier report, Deadline contends Thor star Tom Hiddleston won’t be slipping into black leather for Relativity Media’s remake of The Crow. Instead, the website asserts, we should keep an eye on True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard.

Based on James O’Barr’s 1980s cult comic, the hit 1994 film starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a murdered musician who’s resurrected by supernatural means to exact revenge on those who killed him and his fiancee.

While director Alex Proyas’ original was a commercial and critical success, creating a franchise that included a big-screen sequel, a television series and two direct-to-video movies, Relativity’s plans have met with one obstacle after another. Bradley Cooper was originally set to star in the remake, before bailing out because of scheduling conflicts, followed quickly by director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Adding to the drama was a lawsuit between the studio and The Weinstein Co. over the distribution rights to the movie. But within days of that dispute being settled in January 2012, Relativity announced it had found a new director and writer in F. Javier Gutierrez and Jesse Wigutow. Since then, it’s been mostly rumors, with James McAvoy mentioned as a potential star at one point.

And that brings us to Skarsgard, who has apparently been getting all kinds of offers since David Yates’ Tarzan was shelved by Warner Bros. Although no offer has been made for The Crow role, Deadline suggests it’s Skarsgard’s if he wants it.
