'True Blood' Star Wants to Make 'the Fight Club of Superhero Movies'

Joe Manganiello is no stranger to the superhero game. The True Blood actor played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, and later auditioned for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. He didn't win the Superman role, but now Manganiello's name has been connected to Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.

Based on the actor's recent comments, however, it doesn't look likely that he would accept the Batman role, even if it's offered. Speaking with MTV at Comic-Con, the man behind Alcide Herveaux revealed he only has one superhero aspiration these days.

"I want to do something that's a real deconstruction of the genre," Manganiello said. "There's so many superhero projects out there that it's almost like they're becoming normal, so I want to do one that just flips it on its head and makes it crazy. I want to make the Fight Club of superhero movies."

Depending on how much Snyder leans on The Dark Knight Returns for his Man of Steel sequel, perhaps Batman falls in line with Manganiello's Fight Club-fueled superhero dreams — but I wouldn't count on it.
