With a reboot of True Blood on the way, former star Anna Paquin explained her surprise about the news and how she wishes the venture well.

Paquin spoke with Collider about playing Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series, which ran for seven seasons beginning in 2008. While it hasn't been long since the show came to an end in 2014, it was recently revealed that Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be co-producing a new take on the book series The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. The actor was shocked when she first heard the news, and apparently, she wasn't the only one.

"Charlaine Harris didn't even know it was happening," Paquin revealed. "Everybody's phones were blowing up. Cast and crew, by the way, were like, 'Oh my God, your show is getting picked back up!' and we were all like, 'Huh? What?'"

"We do live in an era of entertainment where the reboot and the sequel have become a currency. So, is it time? I don't know. That's really not my department," Paquin continued. "It was some of the best years of my life, but I don't think them continuing to tell those stories or continuing in that world really has anything to do with the thing that we created. That's its own special little entity that was ours and came with a whole family of cast and crew who are still in touch."

As Paquin points out, the new series will likely be its own entity. And as with many reboots and remakes, it will in no way tarnish what came before, just as the show was unique from the original book series. As such, the actor bears no ill will towards the new project, saying, "I wish them well. I don't know if they need us for anything. Aren't we all too old now? But it's a fun world. It's a supernatural world with endless possibilities. Of course, there's room to do more and to tell more stories within that universe. We don't own it."

No further details about the show have been revealed, so fans can only speculate about its scope. It's possible the show will adhere more closely to the books, likely even using the same name to avoid confusion with HBO's show. It's worth noting, however, that original showrunner Alan Ball is attached as an executive producer on the new series.

True Blood starred Anna Paquin as Sookie, Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton, Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte, Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton, Chris Bauer as Andy Bellefleur and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds.
